The city of Torrevieja lies in the province of Alicante which is large and full of delightful towns and cities although its main attraction is the beaches. Torrevieja does not lack any of the natural beauty that is associated with Alicante with a good number of lovely beaches and historical attractions available.

Natural beauty

Torrevieja is blessed to be located near to two huge salt water lagoons; namely the Laguna de Torrevieja and Laguna la Mata. These lagoons are instrumental in maintaining an attractive and favorable healthy microclimate that draws many visitors every year.

Laguna de Torrevieja is particularly scenic with its warm waters that seem to be pink in color. Research shows that this pink color is generated by a special bacteria existing in the lagoon waters.

The beaches are the main attraction of Torrevieja which stretch over 14 km. At the north of Torrevieja, there is the roomy Playa de La Mata beach which houses the Laguna de La Mata. This spot has been conserved as a natural park to benefit the rich flora, fauna and marine life found here.

There are interesting wide dunes that are made up of fine sand for exploration which can be easily accessed through the beach promenade. Many of these beaches have been awarded the covetous Blue Flag status for their cleanliness and good upkeep with disabled amenities.

Southern beaches

To the south of Torrevieja are many interesting sights and beaches. There is Cape Cervera with Playa de Cabo Cervera to offer some fun filled beach holidays. The Torre del Moro in the vicinity stands tall although it is now an old guard tower which functions as a lookout point for a panoramic view around the cape. One can view great stretches of Santa Pola at the north side to Mar Menor coastline at the south.

Another exciting beach spot is Las Calas which offers very quiet beaches and great diving opportunities.

A lot of divers come here for some great diving as the marine life is rich and colorful.

Playa de Los Locos is a vibrant town beach with plenty of facilities to cater to the needs of tourists. One can enjoy the myriad of water sports at this beach and the warm Mediterranean waters although the best beach at Torrevieja is the popular Playa del Cura. Besides the fantastic soft sands and warm waters, there is no lack of restaurants and beach bars called Chiringuitos to delight the visitors with food and entertainment night and day.
